Light: Partial shade to full sun; foliage performs best with protection from hot afternoon sun, especially in warmer climates.

Attributes: A small to medium-sized deciduous tree, famed for its striking bark. The bark on young trunks and branches is smooth and olive-green with prominent, vertical, silvery-white stripes, creating a snakeskin-like pattern. The bark turns brown with age, but retains its vertical striations. Unusual in bonsai culture. Has light wire marks that are disappearing with age.
