- USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 4
- Native Range: East Asia.
- Soil: Consistently moist, not soggy. Neutral pH.
- Light: Full sun.
- Height in the Garden: Up to 20'
- Attributes: Broadleaf, deciduous, small tree that is fantastic in the landscape and for bonsai culture. It becomes packed with white flowers in spring that are followed by tiny orange apples that fully ripen and color up in autumn. The bark is pretty rough and attractive. Malus toringo is a synonym of Malus sieboldii as far as I can tell.
- Notes: This is a nice little specimen and will make a good multi stem tree. It needs branch development and ramification work The roots are good, but I have planted the tree a bit low to continue their development. Give it shelter from overly hot and bright sun this coming summer. I find that it is better to baby them a little after harvesting from the field.
- Uses: Small size bonsai tree.
