  • USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 5–9
  • Native Range: Southwestern China
  • Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil; tolerates a range of soils including clay and sandy loam
  • Light: Full sun to partial shade
  • Height in the Garden: 6–8 ft (can be pruned to shape)
  • Attributes: Deciduous shrub with deeply cut, fern-like foliage. Unique bristly or burr-like hips (fruit) that resemble chestnut burrs. Flowers are single, pale pink to rose-purple, with a delightful fragrance.
  • Notes: Valued for both ornamental beauty and edible/medicinal fruit. The hips are high in vitamin C and antioxidants, and are used in traditional Chinese medicine and juice products. Its bristly fruit and stems give it great texture and seasonal interest in the garden. Tolerates pruning and makes a good informal hedge or specimen shrub. This clone has single, pink flowers. Give this species rose plenty of space.
