Soil: Adaptable to a wide range of soils but prefers well-drained loam; tolerates clay and occasional dryness once established.

Attributes: A low-growing, deciduous shrub with a dense, twiggy habit and thorny branches. It is prized for its profuse, waxy, fiery red to orange-red flowers that bloom intermittently from spring through fall. The flowers are followed by small, hard, aromatic, yellow-green quinces (fruit) in autumn.
Notes: This is the world famous red flowered Chojubai. It is highly saught after and makes excellent bonsai.
