  • USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 7
  • Native Range: East Asia
  • Soil: Average soil conditions.
  • Light: Full sun.
  • Height in the Garden: Is huge in the wild, but its ultimate height in the garden is unknown, though probably large.
  • Attributes: Broadleaf evergreen tree from East Asia. My favorite characteristic is the scurfy, white to yellow undersides of the leaves. Called the number one oak in Japan.
  • Notes: Was previously in the genus Cyclobalanopsis, a waaay cooler name than Quercus.
  • Uses: Collector plant for oak and tree aficionados. Maybe a good bonsai candidate.
