- USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 8
- Native Range: New Zealand.
- Soil: Tolerant of a wide range of conditions including stream banks and dry, rocky impoverished soils
- Light: Full sun.
- Height in the Garden: 60'
- Attributes: Hall's podocarpus is a needle leaf evergreen in the podocarpaceae. Podocarpaceae is mostly restricted to the southern hemisphere and is fairly unusual here in North America other than P. macrophyllus. It is a gymnosperm, but doesn't make cones exactly. Rather, they make a seed on the end of a fleshy, colorful, swollen receptacle. They are quite odd looking.
- Notes: Hall's podocarpus formerly known as P. hallii is a wonderful tree that can withstand slightly difficult conditions once established. It should be more readily available in my opinion. It may make an interesting bonsai subject as well.
- Uses: Bonsai, collector's tree.
