- USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 6
- Native Range: East Asia
- Soil: Moist, well drained, neutral to acidic.
- Light: Part shade to full sun.
- Height in the Garden: 50'
- Attributes: Large, cordate(heart shaped) leaves with dark green upper surfaces and light colored under surfaces. Beautiful, light colored bark with tons of raised lenticels(pores). Ample large clusters of bright orange fruit in the fall and winter that turns the tree bright orange when the foliage is absent.
- Notes: This species makes an excellent, fast growing shade tree featuring tons of orange colored fruits in the fall and winter. Makes tons of excellent shade in the summer. Idesia polycarpa is apparently widely cultivated, but not very common for some reason. I have seen it used for bonsai; it is unusual and coarse, but looks super cool when it is fruiting.

Uses: Fast growing shade tree, bonsai, beautiful fruit in fall and winter.
